Dear Bernie and Joe,
And so it seems this is how the race is shaping up. Our two elder statesmen are vying for the nomination. Setting aside the unsettling reality that our country is not yet seemingly able to embrace a female president (Warren, in plain terms, seems to me, to be of high intelligence, compassion, and moral conscience and should definitely be part of either of your cabinets), I am comforted in seeing both your names at the top of the ticket. You both have the advantage of life experience. Please take an earnest look at the decisions you have made in the past that do not sit well with your experienced conscience- thus understanding and helping the country understand, we, all of us, are not infallible. There is not simply good vs evil. Please rely on your wisdom to guide us toward the non-radical and simply moral tenets of Bernie’s vision. Go to those many meaningful moments that have shaped who you are, whereby your decisions are lead by compassion and unity. Always steer from decisions based on greed and ego. We must heal this country and help unite us in common cause. In my spiritual heart- I think I am accepting that the ideals that you stand for, Bernie (most of which I fully support) may need to be the long game here. Joe, you may need to be the catalyst to heal the divisive chasm that is creating such pain, anger, and distrust in this country. Nobody, not the media, not the DNC, should target Bernie though. Your vision is clear- justice for ALL: economic, social, racial, environmental. You are on the right side of each of these issues in my mind. Meanwhile, the swell of support for you, Joe, seems to be growing and I have no doubt or hesitation that you are a kind and committed man with a spiritual conscience.
I promise that our hearts and souls will be richer for embracing Bernie’s agenda in the long run. And I am beyond grateful for your voice over the past two election cycles. Money can not buy you happiness, but coming together and helping our brothers and sisters can. I pray we learn this- the suffering is already too great for so many in our country and this world. Finally, we all must aim to understand what we don’t understand about our fellow Americans, and beyond this, humanity as a whole. We must yearn to find solutions that help us all rise and feel true purpose. We must understand the impact our foreign policy has on the civilians of other countries and come to terms with the destruction and suffering we have caused in our imperial rise. We must finally truly face the institutional racism that our country was built on and how it remains pervasive. We must face these evils and chart a new course both domestically and abroad. We must continue in the quest to become that beacon of light- understanding that in our short history, though we have experienced sparks of this light, more sparks must light in unity to ignite the Divine within us all. MLK Jr.’s light sparks most brightly in my soul. I urge you both to go back to his teachings, his deep understanding of domestic oppression and how it is tied to our military war complex- still a grave issue in our political landscape. Every day, when your feet hit the ground, may you be moved by the deep spiritual desire to help all our brothers and sisters RISE. And, by the way, the Universal Source- sees no borders- we ARE ALL ONE.
Expressing absolute gratitude for your courage to take on these challenges, may your faith guide you and us all to a better tomorrow.
